ParentSpace - Usability Testing Findings

END-TO-END APPLICATION.

USABILITY TESTING FINDINGS.

BACKGROUND:

ParentSpace is a social-networking app aiming to bring stay-at-home parents together and help them stay socially active.

GOAL:

Find out how comfortable the user feels using the ParentSpace app. See if all the features and layouts make sense to the user or if there is anything about them confusing to the user. Determine the areas that might require improvement for higher user satisfaction.

PARTICIPANTS:

·         Number of participants – 5.

·         Age range – 21-38.

·         Gender – female, male.

TASKS FINDINGS SUMMARY:

TASK 1 – Register an account.

Observations:

·         5 out of 5 participants started by hitting the Sign Up button on the Sign In screen, proceeded through the sign up steps without issues and completed the sign up flow successfully.

TASK 2 – Get to the profile and complete it.

Observations:

·         5 out of 5 participants found the Profile page successfully and completed the rest of the profile information without issues.

·         5 out of 5 participants agreed with the skippable steps being secondary and optional.

·         1 out of 5 participants pointed out that the labeled checkboxes in the Interests section could be replaced with tags as that might look more compact.

TASK 3 – Figure out how to find friends.

Observations:

·         5 out of 5 participants found the Friends page without issues and completed the find friends flow successfully.

TASK 4 – Find the Log Out option.

Observations:

·         5 out of 5 participants went straight to the Hamburger Menu to look for the Log Out option and logged out successfully.

Participants’ feedback about the app:

·         “Logical, convenient, easy to understand.”

·         “It’s nice. I like it.”

·         “Normally I don’t like sharing information. But here the questions are tactful and not very personal. I didn’t feel uncomfortable answering them. I liked it.”

SUCCESS METRICS:

·         Completion rate – 100%.

·         Error rate – 0%.

·         Average Number of errors - 0.

·         Time on task – 3-5 minutes.

·         Ease of completion – easy.

CONCLUSION:

The usability testing proved the app design to be convenient, logical and easy to understand.

The usability testing participants did not express any privacy-related concerns or discomfort.

1 of 5 participants expressed satisfaction with the security level of sharing sensitive information with the app.

Only one area possibly requiring a minor correction was determined – replacing the labelled check-boxes with tags.
